Free Adobe Alternative Applications

Ever since Adobe started their subscription based cloud applications, the cost has shot through the roof! Imagine paying a monthly subscription just to use an application. It never used to be this way. Gone are they days when Adobe used to provide a disc and you needed a product key to use the application.

Luckily, I have not had to pay for Adobe products since 2009. If you work in the creative industry or in education, chances are it will be paid for.

So, here’s a few Adobe alternatives that are completely free to use.

Photo-editing- instead of Photoshop you can use an application called Gimp.

Instead of Instead of Indesign you can use Scribe.

And, instead of Illustrator, you can use Inkscape.

The end link is an alternative to Premiere Pro.

Please note, these are free applications . So, although they will do the job, there may be a steep learning curve.

Keeping a Journal

So, throughout my teaching career, I have always encouraged my students to keep a reflective journal. This will help students to keep a daily record of day-to-day events. Keeping a journal will also help students to remember things they have done and how they could have improved it. A journal is good for self reflection. How did you feel when you did certain tasks/activities? You can see how far you have come from your journey. The person you are today may not be the person you were when you first started your journey. You will be able to see yourself evolve and grow and how you have progressed during that time. At the end of your academic journey, you can look back at key events, for example, things to celebrate and when lessons were learnt. Whats in a journal? Discounts for Teachers & Students

Students are notoriously known for not having any money. So, it makes sense to save money where they can. I told my students about Unidays. Which is a website that has many popular brands that students/teachers can get discounts. Some students have heard of Unidays whilst others have not. Teachers and students can also get discounts from Adobe products. However, saying this, the School/College usually gives free access to Adobe products. The other thing students should try doing is when they visit a shop online or in-person, they should check to see if the shop offers educational discounts. It’s always worth checking.
